Matt Anderson, DDS
Dr. Matt’s path towards pediatric dentistry includes various health care related fields, including mental health counseling, veterinary practice management, and service and advocacy for adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities. Dr. Matt graduated from Oregon State University in 1997 with honors in psychology and business and went on to receive his masters degree in Counseling Psychology from Lewis & Clark College in 1999. With the support of his wife Jennifer (a University of Oregon graduate and native Oregonian), Dr. Matt returned to school and earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine in 2014.
It was during Dr. Matt’s third year of dental school when he realized his desire to specialize in the care of children. The birth of his own son the year before entering dental school and many meaningful experiences serving and advocating for individuals with special health care needs, significantly influenced his desire to work closely with children and their families. Dr. Matt completed his Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry residency with NYU Lutheran Medical Center in San Diego in 2016. Dr. Matt’s residency was housed within San Ysidro Health Center and Rady Children’s Hospital where Dr. Matt partnered with multidisciplinary teams in the areas of cleft lip and palate, craniofacial syndromes, Down Syndrome, and Hematology/Oncology to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for patients. Dr. Matt’s training included experience with both healthy children as well as those living with significant medical conditions and cognitive, intellectual, and developmental disabilities.
Having strong roots in Oregon, Dr. Matt and his wife Jennifer knew they wanted to raise their son Blake in Oregon. Dr. Matt is an avid cyclist and prior endurance athlete having previously completed Ironman events and long distance mountain bike racing. Dr. Matt and his wife are drawn to all Eugene and the surrounding area has to offer children and families including exceptional educational programs and strong sense of community, as well as outdoor sports and recreation activities such as biking, hiking, camping, backpacking, floating/canoeing, fishing, and ATVing.
Dr. Matt remains excited to bring his experience and talents to Dentistry for Children, which he joined in July of 2017. When asked about joining the practice, Dr. Matt said, “I am very thankful and honored to be joining Dr. Barta and the team at Dentistry for Children. From my very first interactions with Dr. Barta and the practice, I was immediately impressed with the integrity, welcoming warmth, and compassion they have in serving children and families. Dr. Barta has a wealth of experience and knowledge I look forward to learning from and building upon. I am excited to bring my commitment to high quality, compassionate care and service to the community and the children and families of Dentistry for Children. My goal is to make each visit easy and fun for children – Ultimately earning your and your child’s trust through humor, child friendly explanations and interactions, and honest education, prevention, and treatment recommendations.” In January 2019, Dr. Matt was honored to purchase Dentistry For Children from Dr. Barta.
Dr. Matt is board certified in pediatric dentistry and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Matt is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, Oregon Dental Association, and the Lane County Dental Society. To ensure your child’s safety while in his care, Dr. Matt is also certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
